Duleek

Duleek, Co.Meath, is a sizeable village located on the former Great Northern Railway's Drogheda to Navan and Oldcastle branch. Opened in 1850 by the Dublin Belfast & Jct Railway, the line lost its passenger service in April 1958, but remains open for freight traffic from the Tara Mines site at Navan. The single storey station building and platform still survive at Duleek, the station now being a private residence. On the 'up' side of the station was a goods loop and loading bank, disused since the late 1960s.
Duleek closed in April 1958 and the station is now a private residence. 071 Class locomotive No.073 passes by with Irish Rail's annual weed spraying train, en route from Drogheda to Navan. The vacant land to the right was once occuped by a siding and goods loading bank. A view looking west towards Drogheda from the road overbridge at the former Duleek Station. This particular section of the Drogheda to Navan line is largely straight with few curves. An earlier weed spraying train runs past Duleek while en route back to Drogheda hauled by 141 Class loco No.170, distinctively missing its front IE logo. The station only ever had one platform and goods loop. ©Colm O'Callaghan Loco No.080 hauls the midday working from Tara Mines to Dublin Port, seen between Duleek and the former Lougher Halt, the latter also closed in 1958. Much of the Navan branch has been relaid with concrete sleeper track as evident in this view.
Loco No.086 passes milepost 5½ at the Duleek Roadstone Bridge, measured from the junction at Drogheda, as it leads a the morning laden Tara Mines train to Dublin Port. Loco No.086 is captured again, heading past the former station at Duleek with the rake of empty ore wagons from Dublin Port to Tara Mines. Visible in the background beyond the station building is the GNR station masters house.
